Identity documents for Myanmar workers
| Document | Description | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| PJ passport | Red book | Most can be used to travel to other countries, but a PJ issued in Thailand (e.g. converted from a CI in Samut Sakhon/Mahachai) may be stamped “Thailand only” — check the stamp in the book; requires a complete Myanmar ID card and household registration documents |
| PV passport | Red book | Another type of Myanmar passport; ask us about its conditions of use |
| CI (Certificate of Identity) | Green book | Valid only between Thailand and Myanmar; can be used for the visa, work permit and 90-day report |
| Pink card | ID card for persons without Thai nationality | For certain worker groups under Cabinet Resolutions |
CI or PJ? If the worker only works in Thailand and does not have complete Myanmar documents, a CI is usually the better fit. If the worker needs to travel to other countries or use the document for other transactions, a PJ is better → Compare CI and passport

Frequently asked questions
Can a CI be used to work in Thailand?
Yes. A CI can be used for the visa, work permit and 90-day report just like a passport, but it can only be used for travel between Thailand and Myanmar.
The CI has expired. What should we do?
Get a new book (a CI or a passport, whichever is available at the time) and transfer the visa into the new book → See the CI service
A Myanmar worker in the Cabinet Resolution group has no passport yet. Can the work permit still be renewed?
Yes, you can apply, but the passport and visa must be completed by the deadline → See the work permit renewal service
A Myanmar worker is going home. What should be prepared?
Get a Re-entry Permit before travelling so the visa is not lost. Additional documents may also be required by the Myanmar authorities — message us on LINE to check before travelling → See the Re-entry service
Does your team speak Myanmar?
Yes. Workers can message us on LINE in Myanmar → Page for workers
Are your Myanmar workers’ documents complete?
Send a photo of the passport or CI on LINE and we will check it for free.
