What is a work permit?
A work permit is a document issued by the Department of Employment (DOE) that allows a foreign national to work legally in Thailand. New applications, renewals and changes of particulars are now made online through the e-WorkPermit system.
If a migrant worker works without a work permit, or with an expired one, both the worker and the employer are committing an offence.

The work permit has already expired — can it still be renewed?
It depends on the worker group and the announcement currently in force. Message us on LINE urgently and we’ll check eligibility and options.
Can the employee work while waiting for the permit?
For the Cabinet Resolution group, the application receipt together with the payment receipt serves as proof of the right to work while waiting.
What is the maximum time an MOU worker can work in Thailand?
An initial 2 years, renewable for another 2 years — 4 years maximum in total. After that, the worker must return home and be re-imported.
The employee has no passport — can they still renew?
Workers in the Cabinet Resolution group without a passport can still apply, but must obtain a passport and visa by the deadline → See our passport service
After renewing the work permit, does the visa also need extending?
